Felt Fantasy – The Story of a Felt Artist

It has been seven years since Sabri started to fall in love with Felt Art. With a passion for handcrafts with natural materials, he worked with wood for many years before he turned to wool. Inspired mainly by nature, Sabri creates unique designs that portray his pure talent of working with colours and forms. He sculpts three dimensional shapes using wool dyed tissues felted together. In order for small pieces of wool to come together as one unified structure they have to be treated with warm water & soap while being pressed and squeezed repeatedly. Another technique for creating such astonishing shapes is by using the needle and pinching pieces together till they are bonded. While the first technique is more common amongst his everyday work, the latter is usually used for high precision details. There are also some designs that combine both techniques. Based in Istanbul, Sabri is a 29 year old felt artist who is currently preparing to open his own shop in the city downtown.
